A human-powered vehicle (HPV). It's mostly a design competition, but we do race 'em. There's a top speed event and an endurance race (sorta like a road circuit race). It's a hell of a fun way to get credit.

I'll give YOU a bar! ...whatever that means. Besides, you're the one who has more fequent altercations with gravity. And no, there are no weight restrictions. That frame was only a few pounds, though. 0.5 mm ti on the main frame - it's insanely light.

I have a concern: If someone was pulling enough Gs to need that steep of a wall, how would this person have made it through the initial part of the spiral? A bank needs to provide the ability to pull constant Gs throughout. It's an awesome project, I'm just saying I'm concerned about some details of the layout.

It's a pretty straightforward Horst link, but there are two shock mount locations for 4.5" or 6" and two pivot locations for a rising or falling linkage rate. The rising rate works well with a coil spring and the falling rate, which I'm using in the picture, works well with an air spring.

Thanks. I keep thinking about replacing it, since I've had it for six years, but there's nothing I like better. I'll try a Pivot Mach 5 and Ibis Mojo at some point, but they're going to have to be damn good to pull me away from my Quasi.

A good blast from a hose should clear out the tubes. Lizard Skins is making special 1 mm thick covers for those who are concerned.

I get the feeling this is more of a proof-of-concept item than anything destined for heavy production (what with the price and all). Maybe we'll see this tube style used on down-tubes only to maximize the benefits (stiffness to weight ratio and damage tolerance) and keep the cost down.

Relax, people, it's for triathlons. Some road riders will probably give it a try, too, but that's the extent of it. It's not intended for dirt.

I doubt it's light. Despite their simplicity, even basic track bikes tend to be surprisingly heavy. The ones marketed to the public as fixies/poser-commuters aren't stiff enough for track competition.

Even the endurance track event bikes are heavy. When you don't have to go up and down hills or accelerate rapidly, weight isn't an issue. The current hour record holder's bike, for example, was over 40 lbs - might've even been 50.

I'm guessing it's carbon. If I had to guess, I'd say it's pre-preg that was wrapped, woven, twisted, and what not, then expanded from the inside with a bladderto set the tension and shape. Or maybe it was wrapped around a mold from the start, with no expansion. Either way, it's definitely carbon.

Come on, Steve, if you're not going to race on your sponsor's tires, could you at least put 'em on for display?
